Salvador was born in Santa Fe, to immigrant parents from Mexico. The oldest of five children, even from a young age he was responsible for his siblings, with both his parents often working multiple jobs. He resented the duty of looking after children being placed on him, and would often disappear for hours on end when he should have been home looking after them. By his teens he was running with a rather unsavory crowd, often barely avoiding getting into trouble. By 14, he was running 'errands' for the gang. One of these errands, he was carrying items that had been stolen from a rival gang, it was found out and they gang assumed that Salvador had been behind the theft. Soon after, he came home one day to find one of his younger brothers missing. The rival gang had kidnapped him to trade for what had been stolen, no longer in possession of the goods, Salvador went to the meeting nonetheless in an attempt to get his brother back. By the end it had all gone to hell, Salvador didn't remember how it happened, but by the end he was left standing, and the two gang bangers, both much older than him were dead, and a gun was in his hand. He ran, grabbing his brother to take him home.

The police came soon after, one seemed to think it was just another gang killing, but the second, something was different about him. He was almost kind to the boy, taking care of him for a time while he was in police custody, barely leaving his side until a lawyer showed up. The police officer called the lawyer father, despite the fact they appeared close to the same age. The lawyer was a miracle. Every time they tried to make something stick to Salvador the lawyer deflected it quickly, was always there within minutes of needing him. Somehow a charge of double murder was flushed away into nothing but community service and an expunged record come his 18th birthday.

Salvador seemed to find his calling in those four following years. He cleaned up the previous years of his life. He started taking care of his siblings, and working in local soup kitchens and building projects. He enjoyed the work, especially the kitchens, where he began to volunteer for extra hours. Come his eighteenth birthday the lawyer came to see him again. He hadn't seen the man for four years, but the lawyer had things to reveal to Salvador. That he was actually Salvador's father, and that he was the Aztec god Xipe Totec. He told Salvador that there was a duty he needed to do, which was why he saved him from jail, and why he introduced him to what he thought was his calling. He bestowed gifts upon his son, a vest, a necklace and an armband. He sent Salvador off to New York without any explanation as to why he had to be there, just that he did.

So he left for New York as soon as he could. He didn't tell his family much more than he got a good job out there. When he arrived in the city he found a job in a kitchen as a cook. He still sends money home to his family on a regular basis, hating being separated from them, but if a god went out of his way to save him and wanted him to be in New York, he wasn't going to argue. He'd be there, as much as he'd rather be home.

While he often means well and tries to do the right thing, Salvador also has a bad temper and can display a mean streak a mile wide. Friends and family have nothing to fear from him though, he will go out of his way to make sure they are safe and no ill befalls them. He has a soft spot for doing charity work, but he'll rarely let on that that soft spot exists. He gives more of his time than most his age would to do that charity work, preferring soup kitchens and food drives. But should anyone threaten one he's deemed in his care he's likely to go off like a cannon, and often regrets his actions later.

Still, when it comes right down to it, he's still a teenager and would rather just have a good time with good friends above anything else.
