I was delivered kicking and screaming into this world on March 17th while Saint Patrick's Day celebrations were going in full force around the hospital. My mother is an amazing woman named Abigail. The man I thought to be my father was a good man named Seamus. Thought to be my old man, you ask? Well, we'll get to that bit later. I was raised in the Lower East Side of New York in what used to be called Irish Town, what with all the Irish around. Our little section of it anyway, there were tons of other ethnic groups around us. Life was simple then. Seamus owned and ran a pub - simply enough named Seamus' Pub. There are a lot of pubs in my neck of the woods, so business is tough, but he had enough regulars and tourists coming in to keep it going. My mother was an artist. She painted real beautiful things, mostly scenic landscapes. Mostly landscapes in Ireland. I went to school and played around the neighborhood. Stick ball, basketball, dodgeball - whatever, we made do with what we had. Like I said, life was simple then.

I seemed to make friends wherever I went, and no matter what stupid mistakes I made everyone seemed to wave it off. No harm, no foul, he didn't mean it, things could have been worse - that sorta thing. I wasn't - and I'm not - the brightest crayon in the box, but I did alright when it came to school. Everything seemed great, and for all intents and purposes, I figured I must be blessed. Little did I know how right about that I would be. When I graduated high school I figured I'd become a cop. I love helping people, sticking up for them, hitting people who would hit them before they get the chance. Being a cop sounded like a good way to do that. Apparently others had a different job in mind for me. I'll remember my 18th birthday forever. I was taking out the trash befind Seamus' pub. There was a man in the back alley, nothing weird about that, but I felt like I knew the guy. He was big, real rough and tumble type of guy. He helped me with the trash and then offered to shake my hand.

He told me his name was Dagda, that he was a God. He told me that he was my real father. Told you we'd get to that later. Anyway, he said he met my mom when she took a vacation in Ireland before she went to school. She was young, beautiful, and full of life. The rest was history. He told me I had a bigger destiny than just being a beat cop. I suppose most people would feel anger, or betrayal, any number of bad things in this kinda situation. But he was larger than life. I couldn't bring myself to be mad. He gave me a few things, a sword - apparently it's pretty legendary, and a belt buckle. Figure he knew I liked 'em. He told me not to stop protecting the weak, not stop stop bein' a real man. I told him bein' a man is all I know how to do, and he laughed. Then he left. Just left, gone, vanished. I haven't stopped listening to what he said, though. I moved into an apartment in a seedy part of the city, started bouncing at some clubs and bars. It's not exactly the most heroic thing in the world but it doesn't keep me tied down. Been doing that for a few years, now. Now people like me are all over the news. Figure something big is gonna happen sooner or later.
