Background
Preston is the by-blow of Baldur by way of a lonely Navy wife. A military brat, he saw a good bit of the world before he was ten years old and never felt particularly rooted to any one place. The impermanence of every facet of his life left him with a carefree attitude and an adventurous spirit, and the inheritance of his divine parent enabled him to make the most of these qualities. He found an outlet for his energy early in life in dance, and managed to immerse himself in the arts despite his family's frequent relocations. As soon as he was able he struck out on his own, perhaps a little early for a normal young man, but already equipped with the tools to achieve success and the charm and wit to fill in the gaps. He led a charmed life, as much because of good fortune and the boons of his lineage as because he developed a talent for ignoring unpleasantness at a very young age. It may not have actually been easy, but he kept himself blissfully free of a frame of reference and comfortably perceived everything as one big adventure.
He finally put down roots in New York, attending Julliard after a brief stint dancing professionally in the Cirque du Soleil presentation 'La Nouba'. It was during this time that the world became a little harder to ignore. Just as his feet were metaphorically touching ground, an incident occurred which even he had a hard time dismissing as 'just another adventure' when he was attacked by beasties straight out of myth-an increasingly common occurrence among New Yorkers which he was increasingly content to write off as a new influx of urban legends until it started happening to him. What surprised him was not that he was able to fight the beasties off and defend himself, but that he was not surprised. As if somehow this was the right and proper way of things.
Not long after that he received a visit, or perhaps 'Visit', from Dad. Not the olive-skinned, swarthy fellow who'd taught him how to box, but a radiant and somehow melancholy presence who seemed to glow like a miniature sun. Baldur spelled it out for him, using gentler and more flowery terms than Preston's aunts and uncles were likely to later down the road while still getting the point across. The dancer was to become a soldier in a war to save the World. He was armed and briefed on his mission and sent forth…with no real clue what to do next.
Life was an even grander adventure after that. Finding out he was ultimately doomed didn't harsh Preston's mellow all that much. He can already look back on a life well-lived, so every day the sun rises is a victory in itself. He's ready to fight the good fight and do his best to turn the tables on Fate.
Personality
Preston's never had much reason to doubt that the world was a pretty amazing and wonderful place. He seems to float through life with blinders on. He appears to be oblivious to the unpleasant or inconvenient, deftly surmounting or skirting obstacles in his path with an eye toward finding the opportunities nestled in each unfortunate circumstance. He comes across a bit soft, really, and seems entirely too mellow for his own good.
There's not much to dispel that illusion beneath the surface, although the workings of his mind are sharper and more pragmatic than it often appears to be. Preston possesses a keen awareness of just how charmed his life has been and a subtle conviction that all is as it should be. He is unselfish without seeming obligated to any person or thing, sharing what he can and giving aid when he perceives the need without any outward acknowledgment of doing so because it's simply the thing to do.
Mercifully for those who have to put up with him, Preston is not a saccharine font of rainbows and sunshine (at least not figuratively, in the latter case). He is grounded enough to be aware of the clouds filling out all those silver linings, particularly those building on the horizon towards an uncertain but inevitable Ragnarok. The thing is, they've been there since the World came into being, and his reach is not quite long enough to get rid of them. It's something to strive for, a challenge fit to hold his attention where so much has failed to do so.

- Preston's first adventure in the Overworld. He hacks up some shadow-thingies, meets his cousin Haldor, and rides a giant harpy down the face of Olympus.

- Gods and goddesses are rescued but the status quo is irrevocably shattered.
- Preston takes some time to get himself grounded in the mundane world again, and auditions for Dance Steps, Inc. He meets Gayle.
- About an hour later, Preston gets to know Gayle biblically. They are a couple from that point on.
- Preston sleeps through Gayle's Visitation. Her dad steals his truck and picks her up from school. He crashes the truck and whisks her home, right under her sleeping boyfriend's nose. Later, Preston complains of bruising on the back of his head, and somewhere in the Overworld Nezha whistles innocently.
- Once again, Preston scampers off without telling anyone. (He left messages, but seriously…) Months pass. He gets to know the southern United States far better than he would ever want to.
- Preston returns, saves his girlfriend from harpies, crashes yet another truck.
- Baldur comes once again to the Casa De Preston and delivers sad tidings. Also, empowers Godric to be even more uber.
- Preston completely misses the shattering of the sky, which Baldur had specifically alerted him to look out for, but does manage to contribute to the demise of Apophis when the giant ice-snake rampages through the Bronx. He meets his cousin Scrivner along with Dee, Vette, Erika, Gibbs, and Lin. Pryotechnics abound, but New Atlantis remains both a mystery and a threat.
