Background
Melissa grew up in a small coastal city in Connecticut, the daughter of a professor named Helen, and the product of a one night stand when Helen was in college. She was an only child, and her mother never remarried, so things were tight financially during her childhood.
When she was 15 she met her father for the first time, after finding some drunk boys on the beach tormenting some sea turtles trying to lay eggs. She was outraged and, alone, tried to drive them off. It didn't exactly work well…Until Proteus, her father, came from the sea and scared the crap out of the rowdy quartet, sending them running. Things were explained, and two things were given to the frightened and baffled teen; a necklace made of coral that had a tiny whistle on it, and one of the turtle eggs. The former would allow her to use some of his gifts, and to call the turtle that would hatch from the egg she now held. That turtle would be her companion.
She went off to college at 17 in New York on a scholarship to become a marine biologist. It had become her passion. Her calling. Learning about and saving aquatic animals. She graduated at 20, and stayed in New York to continue her schooling. She absolutely loved it there. As did her now 5 year old companion, now called Crush.
Personality
Melissa is a brainy type, loves the water, and loves to have fun. She's also very protective of those she deems hers. Which includes a great deal of marine life. And even think about hurting a sea turtle and you may as well have a sign that says "Kill me please".
Relationships
- Hikaru: Oh, this one's cute.
- Shou: He's fun, and it's always nice to have someone who loves the water almost as much as I do. Though sorry, the sky can't compare, but your surfboard is nice enough.
- Proteus: Dad. He's not around much, but c'mon, he's my /dad/. Though why he prefers seals to turtles, I'll never know.
