Background
So my mom is the most uberliberal feminazi ever…and that's to be expected, my father met her when he was a graduate student at Berkeley. My father's currently a professor at Columbia University in the Physics department, prior to that, he was an ubergeek and enginerd at UC-Berkeley. My mom was the bohemian feminist studies type of gal, and well, they fell in love. Several years later, I was born, and mom died at childbirth…
At least, her mortal shell died when I was born. I was raised in a single parent household, and as you can expect, my father was one of the overprotective types. Still, his love of science and engineering was most definitely contagious and I grew up loving the stuff. It was nice that I inherited my mother's smarts..and I mean her divine smarts.
I was considered a child prodigy, but dad always kept me on track. He wanted me to be emotionally mature as well as intellectually mature. Years would pass and I'd be one of the first triple majors that graduated from UC-Berkeley (their alma maters of course) with a BA in Women and Gender Studies, and BSes in Physics and Biochemistry. I really wanted to have it be a quadruple major, but I think my advisor got upset with me.
During the night of graduation someone visited me…it was my mom, except not as a ghost, but you know..scary goddess type. She looked exactly like those feminist We Can Do It logos, it was bizarre. Apparently, she'd been watching me grow up and gifted me with a few things..a swiss army knife that can turn into any tool that I want, that gives me powers of earth, metal and even..well people's biological functions..and the girlpower gun just in case titanspawn want to attack where I work. I call it Scary Spice, cause well she was the coolest and most awesome of the Spice Girls.
You see, there's a war going on. Good versus evil and all that. Evil has lots of people to make things for them..good..not so much. So that's my job and my role. I make stuff, and I'm damn good at it too. So now, I'm a grad student of Materials Science and Engineering at Columbia (I know, talk about intellectual incest) pursuing my PhD. Meanwhile, I just sorta mess around, make things every now and then. You should see what I can pull out from just various pieces in a junkyard…
Yeah MacGuyver, eat your heart out.
