Scene Title East Meets West
Synopsis Two Brits and a Chinese man take a walk in the park. Fortuitous meetings occur.

Central Park

The famed Central Park, an area that at times, has come to be known as the oasis of NYC. One of the great pleasures New Yorkers and tourists enjoy is getting away from it all inside Central Park. Stretching 51 blocks between 59th and 110th streets, this 843 acre, green rectangle has served its city well since 1859. From famous statues to castles, there is so much to see within this pastoral landmark. One of the more famous stops is The Dairy, built in 1870 as a milk bar, it now serves as the main Visitor Center. There is also the posh Tavern on the Green restaurant nearby. On the more romantic side of the park, Hansom Cabs can be found lined up across from the Plaza Hotel at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue, offering a romantic journey through the park. To the north lies a large, fenced-in body of water. with walking and jogging trails offered along the perimeter path.

Lin walks slowly through Central Park, his hands tucked into jacket pockets. He seems slightly distracted, probably contemplating everything that is going on. The weather has been some what nice, so people have ventured out to see a little green while the sun is still out.

One of those to venture out and enjoy the bit of green is a young, dainty-looking blonde girl. Appearing to be no more than fifteen or sixteen, she is dressed in high-quality, tasteful clothes and walks beside of an enormous male lion. Wait. Lion? Yep, right through the middle of Central Park. Funny thing is, though, that none of the mortals seem to notice or care. Perhaps what they say about New Yorkers - or in this case, New Atlanteans - is true. "Well, I don't know why their history should be so odd. Don't suppose that could have anything at all to do with the fact that this is New Atlantis, now could it?" Considering that there's no one else with her besides the lion, she's either having a conversation with him or herself. Wonder which one would seem crazier…

Lin isn't one of those mortals. He looks up from his thoughts to see the roaming lion. He sighs to himself and starts to head towards the Lion. He tries to get the young woman's attention. "Pst. Miss? If you can slow down, perhaps you can get away from the animal?" He tries to help.

"Animal?" Rose, startled, stops in her tracks. The lion stops as well. Eyeing Lin with honest confusion, the young blonde seems about to back away slowly when it dawns on her. "Oh! You mean Aslan?" Glancing over to her walking companion, she then returns her gaze to Lin, pale eyes judging his reaction closely.

Lin nods his head gently to her. "Animal. The Lion there?" He says, pointing it out to her. "Aslan? You mean the Lion from those books?" He asks, looking a little confused.

"Yes, Aslan." When he confirms that he does indeed see a lion standing next to her, Rose grins and shakes her head. "Why would I step away from one of my best friends? Seems a little rude, now doesn't it?" At that instant, said lion turns to stare at Lin and licks his lips. Because of course he's just starving, right?

Lin sighs and folds his arms across his chest, not looking too terrified of the Lion. Even if the Lion tore an arm or leg off, he would just regenerate it. "So I take it that you can talk to this…Mister Aslan?" He says, walking over to her.

Rose tilts her head to one side, looking at Lin like he might be a little bit crazy. "Well, I've never heard anyone refer to him as Mister Aslan before, but I suppose you're only being polite." The posh, upper-class British accent hints at perhaps a background full of lessons in manners. "And yes, I can talk to him. And he to me, if that was going to be your next question." Laying one hand on Aslan's mane, Rose rubs at a spot just behind his ear. "Is that alright?"

Lin shrugs his shoulders. "I was just trying to be polite." He explains his reasoning. He shrugs his shoulders to her. "As long as he doesn't hurt anyone, I don't have a problem, okay?" He pauses before asking. "So if you can talk to animals, I take it that you are…gifted?" He asks in a lower voice to her.

"Offensive my arse," a loud, almost-obnoxious voice from a little further down a nearby path, "Th' 'eight of fashion, mate." A man dressed in a garish tartan suit with a few choice words spraypainted on the back waves a dismissive hand at a very buttoned-down and proper-looking woman in her forties who appears to be complaining about him, "Sod off."

"Oh yes, quite gifted!" Rose nods, grinning, and bounces up and down on the balls of her feet. "Charlie says I'm quite mad, you know." And speak of the devil. "Charlie!" Jogging to the tartan-suited punk, she flings her arms around him for a quick hug, then pulls away. "I thought you had rehearsal all afternoon!"

Lin lifts up his eyebrow at the loud voice. He scrunches his face at the figure who walks up. He lets out a snort of a laugh, shaking his head at the tartan suit. He pauses before reaching into a jacket for a card. "Well…if you have any problems, Miss. You can reach me on my phone. Plus, you can always ask for Detective Lin Kun." He offers the card to her.

"Don't nick off on my part, mate," Charlie says to Lin, offering him a nod as Rose hugs him and giving her a furtive little smirk, "So … who knocked up yer ma? Given ye' can see th' Pussycat there." About as subtle as a sledgehammer, is Charlie.

Accepting the card graciously, Rose offers a very serene, ladylike smile in return. "A pleasure to meet you, Detective. My name is Lady Rose Hunt of Norfolk." Yes, the Duke's daughter is in New effing Atlantis. "And this," she continues, gesturing to the loudmouth in the tartan, "is Charlie X, lead singer for The unMerry Men." She doesn't say anything about the punk's rudeness this time - mostly because she's biting her tongue to keep from laughing at it - but Aslan offers him a low growl. Nothing serious, just a friendly reminder to keep his voice down.

Lin lifts up his eyebrows at Charlie and his rather frank question. He looks around before nodding his head, looking at both of them. "So…I take it that both of you had some very..special parents?" He asks in a low voice. He keeps out a watchful eye. After all, Atlantis could be watching.

"Could say that," Charlie says with a grin, looking back at Lin and waving a dismissive hand towards the grumbling lion, "But could you say that, eh?"

When Lin lowers his voice and leans in, Aslan turns to eye him approvingly before giving Charlie a very pointed look. See? Quiet. Subtle. Take notes. When the rocker answers Lin's query, Rose nods, but stays silent. It seems she, too, is interested in the answer to Charlie's question.

"I can say that," Lin answers Charlie quietly. "My father is Yan Luo, Lord of the Underworld." He glances around, again keeping that eye out for trouble. He pauses before smiling to them. "Very nice to meet you." He adds.

"Was 'e now?" Charlie answers with a nod, rocking back and forth on his heels, "Yan Luo … hmmm … " He appears to be giving the name some thought, mulling it over.

Nodding slowly, Rose scrunches up her nose in concentration. "That's… the Chinese pantheon, isn't it?" Her voice is low as well, following Lin's cue and also another silent one from Aslan. She lets this information sink in for a moment before stepping a bit closer. "You said you're a detective, right?" Pausing a moment more, she takes a deep breath before continuing. "What could you - " A woman passing close by makes her stop. "Is there someplace a bit more private where we could talk?"

Lin nods his head slowly to Rose. "Yeah. Chinese." He answers before looking off towards the street. "Yeah. It probably be better if we talk some where else. How about I give you guys a call after I can arrange somewhere?" He offers.

"'ow 'bout we call you, being as we got ye' number an' all?" Charlie says with a smile, "We're still gettin' settled, y'see? No fixed address jus' yet."

Rose opens her mouth to reply, but when Charlie beats her to the punch - saying almost exactly what she had planned to - she merely nods and offers Lin a smile. "Between us, we'll be able to find a suitable place within the week. We can talk more then, yeah?" With that - and a wave goodbye to the detective - Rose grabs ahold of Charlie's hand and tugs him towards the southern end of the park. "C'mon, Hatter! They've got polar bears!" Aslan, after giving Lin a respectful nod of his own, follows his little blonde girl down the path; always with an eye and an ear out for trouble.
